LITTLE ROCK PEOPLEĀ

IT ALL STARTED IN THE YEAR 2010

The Kinemastik International Short Film Festival became a proud parent in 2009. We wanted more, a legacy, an impact, a chance to walk hand in hand with young minds and see things as they really are.
Ever since then we have invited countless children to spend an evening with us and the moving collage of films built each year by Mr Jon.
We are not here to preach – this is a discussion. We champion films that involve young people, that portray their points of view and show them creative avenues to explore and experiment with.

Over the years we have shown short films that have shocked, disgusted (most popular) and beguiled our audience. In response we demand they think, imagine and place themselves at the heart of their festival.

Q

HOW OLD SHOULD MY KID BE TO ATTEND?

We show a programme aimed at kids aged between 5-14. But it all depends on your child. The aim is not show anything that would upset a child of any age, but we may show films with simple subtitles (we want to show them the world) for example. In our experience they take care of themselves, and we’re constantly inspired by young minds ability to fill in the gaps.

HOW LONG IS THE PROGRAMME?

The aim is for a 45min to 1 hour programme. No films are above 12mins, and all are designed to keep the little people enthralled.

WHAT TYPES OF FILMS DO YOU SHOW?

Our programme is constructed to inspire and teach, it’s important for our kids to watch films that speak to them or place them at the centre of the narrative.
We’ve shown experimental dance from award winning photographer Nick Knight, a documentary about a 12 year old with the largest vacuumn cleaner collection in the world, shorts about the beauty of the natural world and the best examples of undiscovered animators from around the world. And we always try to inspire them to explore the limits of the physical body they’ve been given and most importantly not to be afraid to fail.

Please do enquire if any you think anything specific might preclude your child from attending – please be aware this is a large screen format with best quality sound.

ARE THERE REFRESHMENTS?

Of course! We aim to provide healthy alternatives to the traditional – although we have those too. And there is a bar for the adults (it’s the weekend and you need to relax too!).

CAN I SEE THE FILMS BEFOREHAND?

We’re afraid not. We operate as a legitimate film festival and are not always authorised to show films outside of competition.
